Project: Traffic Noise Measurement for ARC

Close Proximity Method

The Close Proximity Method (CPX) is a method based on test tyre rolling on the road or the test track surface with measuring microphones located close to the tyre surface. In the CPX method, the average A-weighted sound pressure levels emitted by two or four specified reference tyres are measured over an arbitrary or a specified road distance, together with the vehicle testing speed. These data are collected by at least two microphones, located close to the tyres. For this purpose, a special test vehicle as shown in figure is constructed. Two uniquely different reference tyres have been selected in order to represent the tyre/road characteristics which are to be studied. This project is collaborated with Community of Tomorrow, Saskatchewan Highway and Transportation and Saskatchewan Scrap Tire Corporation.
